7 Heavenly Virtues

Hello, this is the final project of Graphic Processes, and Excited to show what I came up with. As part of this assignment, we had to select either the seven deadly sins or the seven heavenly virtues, and then write an article for each one of them. We also demonstrated our abilities to integrate digital and analog techniques in this project for our artwork. Using 55gsm paper, we prepared a document and printed it on a tabloid newspaper. I used my own photographs and found imagery from saved comic books utilizing both analog and digital compositions of artwork to create every arrangement. This project was printed thanks to Newspaperclub.

In this project, I chose to do the Seven Heavenly Virtues and have a theme of comic book superheroes throughout the compositions.
Here is a list of the Virtues and what kind of compositions I used...

Chastity: analog print/collage
Temperance: typography-based image
Charity: personal photograph, full color
Diligence: personal photograph, duotone
Patience: found Image
Kindness: found image with handwritten type
Humility: constructed image, type included

Below are three of my favorite spreads from my book.
I wanted to show my process of crafting this collage to be shown in the thumbnails in the right-hand corner to show some of what was done to create it. I pursued a comic book theme so I wanted my collage to emulate that by making it sort of blacked out and framed in black as well as carry a flow to the reader. Even though there is no direct text to move the story I need the pictures to speak for themselves along with overlapping them to bring movement to the collage.
For my typography-based image, I struck gold with the comic book text bringing an essential excitement factor to the viewer. With this, I wanted my text to be the main focus while the undertone was that the character Batman does face temperance in his life by having his bat knife slice through the words making it hard to miss.
This image was cool to interact with and I tried to find the best Superman quote that worked with this virtue as Superman is surrounded by a bunch of young kids who idolize him and his strength. I think Superman has one of the biggest hearts for a superhero so I think his kindness is best emulated making others feel safe no matter what. With this quote, I think it can be seen as a little bit sarcastic and humorous as Superman says they are much stronger than they think, while they visibly climb all over him. The other way I see it, I think it can display sincerity in the words to represent what he would do to keep them all safe. All man kind have a little hold on his heart which ultimately makes him very vulnerable to his competitors.
